AboutKintyre Gin
Beinn an Tuirc Distillers Ltd was established at Torrisdale Castle Estate in 2016 by brothers Niall and Kenny Macalister Hall and Niall’s wife Emma.
From the outset the aim was to keep sustainability at the heart of the business and they are proud that their gin still is powered by hydro electricity produced on site, keeping our carbon emissions low. Sourcing water from the eponymous hill, ‘Beinn an Tuirc’ which translates from Gaelic as ‘The Hill of the Wild Boar’ and is the highest point in Kintyre, located above the distillery building. They also have a dedicated tree plantation near the distillery where oak trees are planted to offset any carbon used in the creation and distribution of the Gin. Community is a key strand of what they do and the distillery has pledged to support local enterprises and start-ups when they are in a position to do so. The Distillery currently sponsor the Carradale Music Festival and recently the Mull of Kintyre Virtual Music Festival.
The first bottle of Kintyre Gin rolled off the production line in 2017 and since then they have added several more craft spirits to the range and opened a distillery shop where regular tours are offered. It is another important goal of the distillery to encourage more visitors to the remote and lesser known part of Scotland which benefits not just the distillery but many other local businesses.
