Take a group of five strangers who met on a Scottish Island, a shared love of gin and a passion for the island they call home and what do you get? Isle of Cumbrae Distillers. Launched in September 2020, Isle of Cumbrae Distillers is distinctly positioned as one of the only all-female owned distilleries in Scotland.
Isle of Cumbrae Distillers produce 4 fabulous craft gins that have all won prestigious international awards. In 2023 they were recognized by UK Enterprise as the top female-run spirit distillery in the UK; they also won the 2022 National Association of Scottish Businesswomen Enterprise of the Year, and the Association of Scottish Businesswomen Most Innovative Start-up in 2021.
Located on the West Coast of Scotland, less than one hour by train from Glasgow and two from Edinburgh, the Isle of Cumbrae’s only town of Millport is a perfect day trip for local and international visitors alike, with a short 8-minute ferry ride from the mainland town of Largs. And you don’t even need a car. In fact, cycling is officially Millport’s national sport! Being just over 10 miles around, and relatively flat, Millport is the perfect place to rent a bike and enjoy a wee cycle round the island.
Isle of Cumbrae Distillers offer a distinctive tour experience, bringing to life the fascinating history of gin and the important role women played, as well as showcasing the colourful smuggling history of the Clyde Coast and the history of Millport.
