The ‘Rhodiola Rosea’ or Rock Rose is famed for its rarity and health benefits, and was once sought after by the Vikings for its strength and vitality. It seems it’s fame hasn’t gone unnoticed, as it’s a key botanical in Dunnet Bay Distillery’s equally famous gin, Rock Rose. Created by Husband and Wife team Martin and Clare Murray, the distillery is located up in Caithness, Scotland. Honouring its location, the gin features 5 local botanicals. There are 18 botanicals in total, including Italian and Bulgarian Juniper (you can never have enough juniper!), rhodiola rosea, sea buckthorn, rowan berries, blueberries, verbena, cardamom, coriander, liquorice and cinnamon. The botanical mix was exciting to us from the offset, unique botanicals paired with more traditional botanicals and some secret ingredients to boot. The gin is infused using the vapour infusion method, meaning they are placed in a steam basket in the neck of the still.
To us this is a bright, intriguing, complex gin that combines fruity, floral, and zesty notes with a long smooth finish. It’s a real journey of gin discovery in itself as it has so many twists and turns during the drinking experience, exactly what you want from your gin. This can be enjoyed neat, but it also thrives as a gin and tonic, and the addition of orange and toasted rosemary as garnish really adds to the whole experience.

@burleighsgin Pink Edition is inspired by Tokyo.
Using Burleigh’s traditional London Dry, the PINK edition is distilled with the addition of Japanese cherry blossom, hibiscus, rose and pink grapefruit. Initially released as a limited edition it now forms part of Burleighs core range.
On the nose this is zesty and full of glorious grapefruit with a beautiful floral bouquet running underneath. To taste, pink grapefruit provides balance to the sweetness of hibiscus and cherry blossom.
Soft and utterly delicious it has a lovely floral finish with a touch of bitterness and spice.
This is best served with @fevertreemixers Aromatic Tonic Water. The result is a superb Gin & Tonic with the flavours in both the gin and the tonic blending together effortlessly.
For garnishes, we opted for dehydrated orange and pink pepper as an alternative to the suggested serve of grapefruit.

We have a real winter warmer this evening in the form of Anno Distillers Cranberry & Gin paired with Fever-Tree Clementine Tonic.
Anno Distillers came about when Scientists Dr Andy Reason & Dr Norman Lewis left their roles in science to pursue their love of craft spirits. Combining a love of the Kentish surroundings and expertise in science they work together to create - in their own words - 'The Spirit of Alchemy'. They draw inspiration from their love of the outdoors and in particular the Kentish landscape to create their stunning range of spirit.
We were instantly hooked on this seasonal tipple with its rich flavours and aromatic spiced notes. With sweet orange & cloves at the forefront it fills the palate with unctuous flavour.
Anno Cranberry is excellent in cocktails, fizz and of course as a Gin & Tonic. We paired with another seasonal favourite in the form of Fever-Tree Clementine Tonic Water which also includes a touch of cinnamon. A garnish of orange and orange peel (release those oils!) and voila, a winter warming delight is created.
We can’t think of anything better on a cold winters night....

Tonight we are serving the delectable @ginmare
This Spanish delight is made in the town of Vilanova, which is located not to far from Barcelona. The botanicals are all sourced in the region and are a combination of citrus, cardamom, basil, rosemary, thyme and olives.
There are big flavours in Gin Mare, all of which work together beautifully, whilst remaining identifiable on the palate.
As it prepares to celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2020 we couldn’t help but revisit the perfect serve of lemon and rosemary (rosemary and olive also works).
On the nose it’s fragrant with juniper, thyme and lemon peel. On the palate it’s rich and complex with a wave of succulent herbs, tasty olives and fresh lemon. It’s remains zesty on the finish, with the olive and thyme lingering.

So living in Oxford we’ve always been aware of the healthy rivalry between Oxford and Cambridge, thanks to the outstanding universities that lay within the cities. Being Oxfordian, would we be able to celebrate this month’s @craftginclub without going turncoat?
The answer is, of course we can! Whilst we love Oxford and everything about it, we also have huge admiration for local influences, creativity and flavour. These elements are all present within @cambridgegin, which is inspired by local meadows and botanicals within a mile radius of their premises. Cambridge Dry Gin have a singular aim, to create outstanding gins using the freshest botanicals, and this is certainly evident from the offset.
Founders William and Lucy, have created this limited Rosemary & Verbena Gin exclusively for Craft Gin Club. It’s no surprise given the name that this gin sees Rosemary & Verbena take centre stage, with feature hints of Angelica, Blackcurrant Leaf, Basil & Rose Petals. On the nose it has a delightful aroma, there’s piney juniper but there’s also a herbaceous edge, paired with a side of Autumnal Britain. To taste this is citrus forward, but surprisingly there is no citrus fruit within the blend. The citrus notes come courtesy of the verbena, which is a leaf that ultimately creates lemon notes. It gives the gin a fresh and citrusy feel and taste, alongside a dominant Juniper base that lifts up those lovely lemony Verbena notes.
As a garnish we’ve paired this with dehydrated pear. William & Lucy have a pear tree in their garden, so it’s a little nod to them, and the fresh botanicals and garnishes they use when creating their own G&Ts at home. There is also warming note of rosemary and basil within this gin, so you could even include rosemary as the garnish, or basil if you’d love to accentuate the green notes and that herbaceous undertone. The gin is really there for you to play with, and whilst this has been released in Autumn time, we could see ourselves serving this up in Summer. It delivers English Garden in the most glorious way, by bringing together citrus, floral and herbaceous elements.

#thegintomychristmas 12-day advent calendar is a real passion project. As you know we LOVE LOVE LOVE gin, so we’ve thrown ourselves into every aspect of the calendars creation, even hand stuffing these personally. 😂
Why 12 days? Honestly, having indulged in various gin calendars over the years with our “blogger” hats on we found ourselves loosing the excitement halfway through. Instead we we wanted to focus on a small but quality selection of craft gins during the last 12 magical days before Christmas.
We’ve also included a pretty decent measure (hurrah!).... a double or 50ml measure to be precise in a cute miniature bottle perfect for sharing, saving, or for drinking yourself!
Plus we’ll be sharing the backstories botanical make-ups and serving suggestions on the relevant day.

We are starting the week off in style with a bold and flavourful classic Martini using Plymouth Gin, Mr King’s 1842 recipe.
This blend is inspired by a recipe found in the archives at the distillery that was created by one of Plymouth Gin’s first distillers, Mr King. The recipe dates back to 1842 and has been recreated, in our opinion, to perfection.
There are only two botanicals, Italian Juniper & Orris Root. Master Distiller Sean Harrison has shown his skill in balancing these two flavours. This is a gin that is bold in flavour yet smooth on the palate.
That’s not the only unique thing about this gin. Sourcing the finest juniper was a true journey. They eventually came across a mountainside in Frontignano and incredibly the pickers harvested all of the juniper in just one day, the 25th October 2018.
Only one batch of Mr King’s 1842 batch will be made with the juniper that was harvested - it really is very very special so if you can get your hands on a bottle - please do. With the bold juniper aromas and flavours that fill the nose and palate along with an undertone of earthiness you won’t be disappointed!
This gin makes an incredible Martini, we garnished with a twist of lemon, utter perfection.

We are back in Cardiff this weekend ready to do a gin tasting at the Castle tomorrow. A favourite haunt of ours is always Gin & Juice, basically gin bar heaven for us enthusiasts.
Their range of gins available are impressive to say the least, there is most certainly a gin for everyone here ranging from fruity to traditional, herby and the downright out there!
So what to choose? This evening we opted for Trevethan Grapefruit & Lychee Cornish Gin. As you can see from the bottle it has clearly been a well loved tipple at Gin and Juice and with good reason. It really is a delicious gin!
Trevethan Gin was created using the traditional family recipe perfected in the 1920s by Norman Trevethan.
Every single batch is hand crafted and hand distilled in Cornwall in small quantities to ensure that the upmost quality is achieved.
Their gin of course has true Cornish provenance with botanicals sourced where possible from local hedgerows.
The Grapefruit and Lychee Gin is a delicious twist on the original. Using their London Dry as a base they add grapefruit and lychee to create a citrus forward and delicately sweet exotic yet tasteful masterpiece that still retains Juniper goodness! POWER PAIR!
Have you tried our Yuzu & Schezuan Pepper collaboration with @brentingbygin
This spirit of friendship is a gin of two halves. Botanicals include juniper, coriander, anglica, orange peel, liquorice root, yuzu, schezuan pepper and wood avens.
The Yuzu & Schezuan Pepper mirror our friendship, both bringing something different to the table, but also blending together with ease.
On the nose juniper, tantalising citrus and seductive spice comes through giving you hints of what’s to come. To taste waves of citrus rush to greet you, the yuzu is powerful, with the orange adding layers to its citrus character. Piney juniper makes itself known, along with subtle herbs providing balance. To finish it’s a dry lingering spice that gives this gin a pronounced finish. The more you drink the more the spice develops but it’s never overpowering, instead its immensely satisfying.
As a serve we usually recommend an Indian Tonic, with a garnish of orange or grapefruit to enhance the citrus, or red chilli to enhance the spice, however tonight we’ve opted for @fevertreemixers Ginger Ale. As a pair it’s full of flavour delivers a beautiful taste journey of sweetness and spice with the Schezuan remaining on the finish.
